Under New Ownership

As of June 1st, Jenkins & Sons in Penn Hill is under new ownership. Urban Guild has sold the business to Mark Cribb’s Brother-in-Law, Ben Paulley, who is passionate about craft beer and keen to stay true to the butcher’s and fishmonger’s roots of the Jenkins family name.

From the 1st of June Ben will be in the venue and keen to meet all of the lovely regulars who have supported the venue over the years.

We know this news is likely to raise a few questions and we’ve put together a few answers to the ones we could think of, which you can see below. If you have any concerns, just pop in to J&S, email us or send us a message on our social profiles.

What will happen to my HUG CLUB points?
Your hug club points will still be valid until the 31st May at Jenkins and Sons and at all other Urban Guild venues, after that, including the newly opened Urban Garden in Bournemouth town centre. Normal terms and conditions apply to the use of those points, like days of the week and times etc.

What will happen to my HUG CLUB benefits?
Hug Club benefits will be available at Jenkins & Sons until the 1st of June, 2for1 mains on Monday, 2for1 cocktails, etc. After then, all these wonderful benefits will be available at Urban Guild venues. Keep an eye on the Jenkins & Sons website and in venue for promotions that Ben will be offering.

I have an Urban Guild gift voucher, can I still spend it?
Yes, your gift voucher can still be used up to its expiry date, at any Urban Guild venue:- Urban Reef, Urban Beach Hotel and Urban Garden in Bournemouth town centre.

Why are you selling Jenkins & Sons?
We have taken the difficult decision to pass on Jenkins & Sons to a new owner, in Mark’s family, after nearly six years in Penn Hill, for two main reasons:

Firstly, the opportunity has arisen for us to open a new large-scale venue in the town centre and as a small business, resources are focused on getting that established now it’s open to the public.
Secondly, we have always wanted Jenkins & Sons to grow and develop and feel that being an owner-managed venue will ensure it gets the devotion it and its customers deserve.

What’s going to happen to Jenkins & Sons now?
We know Ben is going to give all his time and love to Jenkins & Sons, (when he’s not with his wife and young family), he’ll maybe try a new concept or two but we know his heart is set on making it a success.

What if I have an event booked with you?
We will work with Ben to either look after you at Jenkins & Sons or if not we will try to find space for you at an Urban Guild venue. Jenkins & Sons will continue to offer events and functions after the 1st June.

Is the name going to change?
No. Ben will retain the name, website, social media channels etc. Under GDPR rules though he won’t be able to email you with exciting updates, unless you register your details. Look out for the handy link on their shiny new website after 1st June. We’ll still have your email registered on our list, so you can continue to receive news from Urban Guild venues and you can manage your preferences, here.

Is the team going to change?
Ryan, Jonny, Chelsea and Thomas Sibley are staying on, working with Ben, give ’em a wave and hug when you’re next in.

Hopefully this is a helpful list, but like we say, we’re here to chat with you in the venue or online, drop us a message any time and we look forward to seeing you.

Big hugs x

Mark, Ben, all the Jenkins & Sons team xx
